Vegetable woes

So this year I tried to grow the following:

  • Spring onions
  • Tomatoes
  • Green Peppers
  • Chili Peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Green beans

The spring onions were slow to get established but once they did, they grew like champs. The only downside, I planted them all together, harvested them all together and suddenly there were none.

The tomatoes were great, I bought one plant it grew well until we went on vacation and it got parched but we had a lot of tomatoes of that plant, they were tasty and more bug resistant than the ones from last year.

Speaking of last year, I had two tomato plants that grew from seeds that were left over from last year, no cultivating or fuss just grew on their own. I got a lot of tomatoes from those plants but many of them were attacked by bugs.

Green peppers were a disappointment this year. I didn’t get many at all. It appears that the lack of water may have caused them to falter and they never really recovered.

Chili peppers grew OK but were not very tasty, I really didn’t enjoy them and probably would not grow them again.

Cucumbers, they were a bit of a weed. They grew well and we had cucumbers all season but the plants are strong vines and they try to strangle everything else. Next year we will try a different type of cucumber.

Green beans grew great but once harvested they are done so we got several beans but quickly ran out of them.
